There are so many challenges in homeschooling your child, but reading by far has to be the hardest.
This can be overwhelming for some mothers and fathers. I can’t count the times I’ve heard some one say ” I just don’t think I can teach my child to read.” Or ” I don’t have the patience.”
It is true, it does take patience but mostly it takes perseverance . I’ve children that learned to read easily, it almost seemed they taught themselves. I’ve also been on the flip side of that and had a child struggle so much they were 9 years old before they finally grasped the concepts of phonics.
Fortunately there is help out there. Christian Light has a wonderful Learn to Read Program. So do many other publishers.
You also have the option of online help, just do some research. You are not alone if you are struggling to teach that struggling child.
I want to encourage you today to persevere. Keep the faith, they’ll learn. Just keep trying. When all else fails, start over back to the basics.
Reteach the alphabet, then phonics. I have actually made my children and some of my nieces and nephews go outside and holler to the top of their lungs, ” I CAN READ!!!”
I have found if they don’t believe they can learn to read, they will not even try. Restore their confidence while you encourage your own.
Above all pray, Jesus will help you. Blessings this school year.
